Avoiding Backpain

Most people don’t realize how much damage sitting does to their spine. It puts an enormous amount of stress on your lower back. Besides causing discomfort, sitting for extended periods puts you at risk for developing spinal conditions. The best thing you can do is adjust your sitting position every 20-40 minutes. This changes the angle of the spine and the resulting pressure. Your Nitro, WV, chiropractic recommends that you invest in an ergonomic chair. Your entire body will feel brand new! These chairs provide you with great lumbar support.

If you work at a desk the majority of the day, consider adjusting it for your physical needs. Lower your desktop monitor until it is eye level. You won’t have to keep your neck at an awkward angle then. Your keyboard also needs to be slightly lower than your elbows. Last but not least, keep your shoulders back and your arms relaxed.

There are two skills that you need for a healthy back: flexibility and strength. Never make the mistake of building up one and neglecting the other. Work on both when you visit the gym. Just remember to keep the right posture when using any exercise equipment.

Dr. Jay McClanahan recommends you start every day with some light exercise. This gets the muscles and blood moving. Your back muscles will be ready for anything!
