Spinal Decompression Therapy

Spinal decompression puts negative pressure on each disk, to alleviate the pressure and pain associated with compressed disks. When a disk is compressed, the disk material moves from its place between each disk, into the space occupied by the nerves. When these nerves become crowded, the patient experiences great pain and pressure that is not alleviated by even the strongest of pain medications. At Dr. J Chiropractic and Wellness Center, Dr. Jay McClanahan relieves this severe discomfort using the ABS System, a state of the art spinal decompression machine that delivers decompression therapy in a safe and comfortable manner.

Spinal Decompression Therapy involves stretching the spine, using a traction table or similar motorized device, with the goal of relieving back pain and/or leg pain. The ABS machine treats disc bulge and herniation, disc degeneration, sciatica, spinal stenosis/arthritis, and facet syndrome. The machine is computer controlled and the patient is fully clothed during treatment. Dr. McClanahan will fit you with a harness around your pelvis and another around your trunk. You either lie face down or face up on a computer-controlled table. Dr. McClanahan operates the computer, customizing treatment to your specific needs.

Chiropractic Treatment For Migraines

Dr. Jay McClanahan recommends chiropractic adjustments for migraine or frequent headache sufferers who have yet to find relief. Chiropractic treatment will not cure migraines, but it is one of the few ways to be proactive against migraines and help prevent them.  In someone prone to migraine episodes, a trigger can often be a misalignment, or subluxation of the spine.  Migraines can begin with tension in the neck, but even patients without migraines find keeping their neck free of kinks helps improve frequent headaches. Dysfunctional vertebrae in the neck can cause increased muscle tension and interrupt the nerves that control blood flow to the brain. Chiropractic adjustments relieve the pressure and tension that results in headaches, and keep the spine aligned to help it function at its best.

The exact cause of migraines is unknown, but most theories acknowledge an interruption in either nerve activity, blood flow to the brain, or both.  Regular chiropractic adjustments also help facilitate healthy blood flow and nerve function.  For a chronic migraine sufferer it may take weeks of consistent adjustments, but patients will experience a significant improvement in migraine frequency, intensity, or both.  Improving alignment of the bones in the neck and spine can prevent headaches and migraines, and adjustments also keep the body in balance.

Adjustments are a safe way to relieve tension and decrease the intensity and frequency of migraines without medication.  To learn more about the services provided at the practice, visit www.drjbackdocwv.com for more information. Degenerative Disc Disease

Degenerative disc disease is not really a disease but a term used to describe the normal changes in your spinal discs as you age. As we age, our spinal discs break down or degenerate, which may result in degenerative disc disease in some people. DDD is typically diagnosed with a medical history and a physical exam, so if you are experiencing any aches and pains out of the ordinary, visit Dr. Jay McClanahan of Dr. J Chiropractic & Wellness Center, today.

Spinal discs are soft, compressible discs that separate the vertebrae that make up the spine. The discs act as shock absorbers for the spine, allowing it to flex, bend, and twist. Symptoms of DDD are most commonly concentrated in the low back or neck, depending on where the degenerated discs are.

Where the pain occurs depends on the location of the affected disc. Common symptoms include pain that ranges from nagging to severe and disabling and periods of severe pain that comes and goes, lasting from a few days to a few months.

Whiplash Treatment

If you’ve recently been injured in a car accident, you probably think that taking care of your vehicle is more important than taking care of yourself. This should not be the case. If your body was jerked around during the accident, you might be suffering from whiplash without even realizing. Symptoms of whiplash may be delayed for 24 hours or more after the initial trauma, so it’s important to visit Dr. Jay McClanahan of Dr. J. Chiropractic & Wellness Center following the accident to discuss your treatment options.

Sometimes, the pain of whiplash is immediate. In other cases, it can take several hours or a day before your neck begins to hurt. The blow that causes neck strains can sometimes cause a concussion, too. This is why it’s important to seek medical care after a serious accident. Treatment of whiplash depends on the wide variety of symptoms present. Some symptoms include neck pain and stiffness, headache, shoulder pain, dizziness, ringing in the ears, and/or back pain.

If you have questions or concerns regarding whiplash, please give us a call. To learn about the services provided at the practice, visit www.drjbackdocwv.com for more information.
